Summary Edit

Following the previous week's heartbreak, South could no longer make the finals, while their final round opponents, Heidelberg United, were anchored at the foot of the table and contemplating life in State League 1. The under 21s curtain raiser had to be abandoned when Heidelberg, 7-0 down after starting with only nine players, had three more injuries and no one to replace them. Thus the stage was set for one of the most underwhelming of Greek derbies, but at least there was enough action on the field to entertain the small crowd.

On an atrocious field, South Melbourne, fielding a young and understrength line up, went ahead when Matko Budimir scored his first goal for the club, only for one time South triallist Devon Bonne to level the scores. Two goals in three minutes to Shaun Kelly - the first a header which came off the post, and bounced in courtesy of the bumpy pitch, the second a spectacular aerial volley after Chris May made a save - gave South a two goal lead, which was whittled down to one at half time when Papadopoulos headed home from a corner. The second half saw Baggio Yousif and Tom Matthews each score their first goals for the club, rounding out the rout.

The result saw South finish one point outside the finals.[1] Kelly's double saw him win the club's leading scorer for the league season with four goals, a dispiriting effort considering that Kelly was brought in as a defender midway through the 2012 season, and had played just seven games.
