The 1890 Melbourne soccer season was, according to the documentary evidence available, a poor one, with few teams and only intermittent matches.[1] South Melbourne was one of the few teams left. It played for the George and George Challenge Cup, as well as the Beaney Cup, with matches predominantly played at Middle Park. Results for some of these games are unknown.
After this season, the South Melbourne club founded in 1884 appears to go into recess. It is not known if it bears any relation to future clubs using the South Melbourne name, or whether any of the people involved with the club had any future involvement with soccer.
